Facilities

The National Stud Farm is the only recognised Thoroughbred breeding establishment in Malaysia and its produce are registered in the Malaysian Stud Book which has been internationally recognised since 1996.

It offers a suitable environment for breeding in terms of its natural terrain, services and facilities. The flat and gentle undulating land with fully developed pasture on rich limestone soil proved to be conducive to the breeding of Thoroughbreds in the tropics.

Fully equipped, the Farm is on par with established farms overseas to handle all aspects of foaling, breeding and rearing of Thoroughbreds.

Season

Traditionally the Stud Farm has followed a Southern Hemisphere breeding season. Starting in 2012 we wiil also begin breeding to a Northern Hemisphere season beginning February 2012 in addition to the Southern season in September 2012.

This move will be very interesting for all and as we are in fact in the Northern Hemisphere zone should prove to be beneificial to the development of our young horses.

Care and Management of Horses

Horses on the Farm are cared for by experienced staff who are trained to attend to each individual animal’s needs whlist their growth and development are closely monitored. We believe that paying attention to details will assure us of success.

Breeding Goals

The National Stud Farm has a mission to breed horses that are competitive with imports in open company races on the local race circuit.

Breeding Activities

Stud services are provided by our select stallions and the Farm has its own band of broodmares with imported pedigrees.

Spelling and Retirement

The National Stud Farm is a registerd spelling farm with the Malayan Racing Association. We specialise in offering the best of care and facilities for racehorses and competition horses.

Rehabilitation services are also avaliable for horses returning to work after injury. We have Treadmill and walking facilities to help horses recover in a professional and structured environment.

Retirement options are also offered to owners for the long term home for their retired horses where they will be cared and nurtured in their advancing years.

Farriery

Farriery is another service offered by the Farm. Horses have their feet trimmed and attended to regularly and shod where appropriate.

Corrective shoeing and feet trimming are carried out for horses with problem feet.

On hand to perform these services are two of our staff who are Malaysian Equine Council Registered Farriers. They have undergone a systematic training programme under the auspices of the Malaysian Equine Council, working in collaboration with the Brisbane Institute of TAFE. The programme was conducted by an accredited Master Farrier. They regularly attend farriery workshop including regrading and evaluation programmes both locally and abroad.

Breaking-in/Pre-Training

Horses sold at the National Premier Sales are broken in after the sale by professional horse breakers. These horses are worked on our own track and readied to go to trainers to prepare for their future racing and or equestrian pursuits.
